The deadline to add classes is Friday of Week 2 of each academic term. You may verify this date with an international student advisor.
If you must withdraw after the Friday of Week 2 of the academic term, you must remain enrolled and remain in status up until the time we release your SEVIS Record. Complete your request. A notification email will be sent to you when your document is ready. You will be able to download the completed form directly from your iPortal request, and then email it to your new institution.

Undergraduate and Graduate Students. During the fall and spring terms, F-1 and J-1 students are required to enroll full time. Full time enrollment is defined as follows:. Graduate students must follow the College of Graduate Studies policies on enrollment requirements. Students enrolled in the Intensive English Program are required to be continuously enrolled every session.
No online courses W or V sections are permitted. Students may be eligible for a one-session annual vacation after four consecutive sessions of enrollment in the IEP. Students enrolled in Global Achievement Academy program must be continuously enrolled for the duration of their program. GAA Prep students may be eligible for a one-session annual vacation after four consecutive sessions in the Intensive English Program.
Prior to under-enrolling or dropping below the full-course requirement, students must first receive authorization from an immigration advisor. Authorization from an immigration advisor is required even if an academic program recommends a student to enroll for less than a full-course load. Federal regulations permit requests for a reduced course load for the following reasons, all of which must be supported by an academic advisor or medical documentation:.
Per university policies, students must meet the standard full-time enrollment criteria to be eligible for a graduate fellowship or assistantship. Approval of a reduced course load request does not change this requirement. Students not receiving a qualifying award are responsible for their full tuition and fees at the Non-Florida Resident rate. UCF F-1 students may be eligible to meet their full time enrollment requirement by simultaneously registering at UCF and another institution. Once approved, students must still be registered at UCF for at least half their required credit hours. Students changing their major or program of study must inform an immigration adviser immediately.
Students accepted into another degree level or who have finished a program and would like to continue studying at UCF in another degree level will need an updated Form I or DS that reflects this change. To qualify for an extension, students must be maintaining their immigration status and be making normal academic progress towards completion of their program.Work authorization for J-1 students is called Academic Training.
Academic Training for J-1 exchange visitors allows you to gain experience in your field of study, generally after your completion of studies. However, pre-completion Academic Training is possible as well.
There is no formal application or fee to be mailed off for Academic Training. If your DS does not list the University of South Carolina as your program sponsor then you must contact your program sponsor ex. Note that working without receiving prior written authorization from International Student Services will lead to termination of your J-1 status as well as termination of your J-2 dependents' status.
Seeking authorization after beginning work is grounds for termination. To request Academic Training authorization, you must submit the following documents to the International Student Services office at least 10 days prior to the end date of your DS Academic Training authorization is employer-specific. If you are adding a new employer or changing employer, you must request a new authorization utilizing the same process.

You may not begin new employment until you are authorized for it. The DS and the letter, along with your valid passport, and form I, will be sufficient to fill out the I-9 form to be employed. If you are planning to travel outside the United States during your post-completion academic training period, please be aware that you should carry your DS with a travel signature no older than six months, valid passport, valid visa and proof of employment to re-enter. While travel is possible while on post-completion Academic Training, it is considered more risky if you are traveling on an expired visa as it may be more difficult to get a new visa.
If this is the case, please discuss international travel with an ISS Advisor. International Student Services SC. Eligibility You are primarily in the United States to study rather than engage in academic training. You are participating in academic training that is directly related to your major field of study at USC, which is listed on your Form DS You are in good academic standing with USC. You receive written approval in advance from the responsible officer RO for the duration and type of academic training.
The health insurance must meet the minimum requirements J-1 visa holders. Academic Training must commence no later than 30 days after completion of your studies. If you are employed on-campus, the total number of hours in Academic Training and on-campus employment may not exceed your allowed amount of hours per week.
Length of Academic Training month general limit. For undergraduate and pre-doctoral training, you can engage in up to 18 months or the period of the full course of study, whichever is less. Up to 36 months of academic training can be granted for academic training done at the post-doctoral level, inclusive of all prior academic training done at that or lower levels of study.
Applying for Academic Training To request Academic Training authorization, you must submit the following documents to the International Student Services office at least 10 days prior to the end date of your DS A completed Academic Training Request Form This form requires a section to be completed by your academic advisor.
Providing proof to your employer Once you are authorized, you will get a new DS and a work authorization letter from ISS. However, CPT requests are commonly delayed due to errors or omissions on the request form or employment letter.
If you submit your application later than that, we cannot guarantee that you will be authorized to work by your requested start date of employment. Please note that F-1 students are required to have their CPT I in hand on their first day of employment.
Curricular Practical Training is a type of off-campus work permission for F-1 international students who are currently pursuing study programs in the United States and want to gain experience in their fields of study. CPT is not available after a student completes a degree program. Use of full-time CPT in a prior degree at the same level would be included in the 12 month calculation.
CPT is an academic experience, and is not intended to be used for regular on-going off-campus work. Students should be mindful to keep all records of CPT and the academic work related to CPT, and how that employment is integral to the degree program.
CPT may be authorized when an internship is a requirement of a degree program i. Authorization can be for full-time or part-time employment, depending on the academic department's requirement. Currently, the following programs at UC Berkeley have been identified as requiring employment or practical training to graduate:. CPT may be authorized for students who enroll in a course that requires employment to earn a grade, or a course where students design their own research project based on the employment.
Course enrollment should be in the student's Major department or Intended Major for Undeclared students. Summer Internship. Applications with no explanation of alternate enrollment will be denied. Enrollment in the course must be concurrent with the employment. Employment may take place in Fall, Spring, or Summer. Authorization will be granted on a semester-only basis. However, if a student wishes to work for a period longer than the last day of the semester, they must enroll in the next available semester before authorization can be extended beyond the current term see Application Processbelow.

Beginning or continuing employment without authorization is a serious violation of your F-1 status. Incomplete applications may cause CPT to be denied or delayed. Every month in J-1 student status makes a J-1 student eligible for a month of AT up to a maximum duration of 18 months of AT. Note: Apply no later than 21 days after the completion of an academic program. AT must be authorized within 30 days of completing the degree. Failure to obtain authorization within 30 days will disqualify a J-1 student from being authorized for AT.
